![]() Inverewe
Gardens lie on the latitude of Labrador and Leningrad, but it
has the blessing of the warm air off the Gulf stream. Thus exotic
plants from the Pacific and South America, South Africa and the
Himalayas are allowed to create a panoply of colour almost the whole
year round in a magnificent setting on the shore of Loch Ewe. When
Osgood Mackenzie set to work here in 1862, there was only a heather
moor and a single diminutive willow tree, but now giant
forget-me-nots, exotic lilies and bamboos jostle other rare plants
among
the sheltering firs and pines. Inverewe Gardens was given to the
National Trust
for Scotland in 1952. Take a short day trip from our bed and breakfast accommodation.
